If you’ve started looking into wedding costs, you’ve probably realized very quickly that the numbers are all over the place. That’s because there isn’t one fixed price for a wedding in Victoria. Most couples will land somewhere between $20,000 and $100,000+, depending on their guest count, priorities, and overall vision.
But here’s what I always explain to my couples: Your venue doesn’t determine your budget. It determines how your budget gets spent. Instead of one average number, it’s much more helpful to look at three common starting points.
This range is usually less about the venue itself and more about how simplified the wedding is overall. These weddings tend to have a smaller guest count, a more relaxed setup, and fewer rentals or design elements. You might be looking at a community hall, a small restaurant buyout, or a very intimate celebration/micro wedding.
To make this budget work, couples are usually:
You’re not necessarily cutting corners, you’re just being selective. It’s also important to say this clearly: backyard weddings only fall into this category under very specific circumstances. If you’re hosting under 20–30 guests or keeping food very casual, it can absolutely work. But once you start adding more guests or prioritizing comfort, things shift quickly.
This couple rented an Airbnb in Sooke (The Cove at Otter Point) and celebrated with about 40 of their closest friends and family. They brought in a food truck and chose canned drinks to keep costs down while still creating a beautiful, intentional experience. Photos by Lara Marie Photography.

This is the range most couples in Victoria fall into, especially if they’re booking a traditional venue. Think hotels, wineries, golf courses, or dedicated event spaces. These venues often come with built-in structure, which can make planning feel much more manageable. Some great examples in Victoria are The Inn at Laurel Point and Sea Cider Farm and Ciderhouse!
In many cases, your venue will include:
You’re paying more upfront, but you’re also removing a lot of the behind-the-scenes logistics. That said, there are still things couples are often surprised by. Minimum spends can apply, bar packages can increase your total, and design upgrades (like florals or specialty rentals) are usually additional.
This range tends to strike a balance. You get a polished experience without having to build everything from scratch.

This is where weddings become either more custom, more elevated, or both. And this is also where a lot of misconceptions come in, especially around backyard weddings.
If guest experience is important to you, a backyard wedding often requires you to bring in everything. Not just decor, but the infrastructure that makes the event comfortable and functional.
That can include:
At that point, you’re not just hosting a wedding. You’re building a venue. At the same time, this budget range also includes luxury venues and high-end experiences. Think estate properties, upscale hotels, or historic venues with premium service and high minimum spends (like Hatley Castle or Sea Lion Estate in Sooke).
Both paths can land you in a similar budget range. The difference is where your money goes. With a backyard wedding, you’re investing in logistics and rentals. With a luxury venue, you’re investing in service, experience, and in Victoria, the stunning views.
Below is a micro wedding at Sea Lion Estate was coordinated by Fêtes by Linda and captured by From Sundays. This couple had a smaller guest count but their budget went to a luxury venue and a gourmet spread for their guests, plus high end rentals and an open bar for maximum guest comfort. Sea Lion Estate does not allow wedding guests inside the mansion, so it a place where a total venue build out is needed!

No matter which direction you go, there are a few key factors that will shape your budget more than anything else. Guest count is the biggest one. More people means more food, more rentals, more everything. Beyond that, your costs are influenced by:
It’s rarely just about the venue, but the venue can definitely influence how the remainder of the budget is spent.
If you’re trying to figure out where you might land, here’s a general guide:
These aren’t strict categories, but they’re helpful starting points.
There’s no “right” amount to spend on a wedding. What matters most is understanding what your choices actually require, and making decisions that align with your priorities.
A backyard wedding can be incredibly beautiful and meaningful. But if guest experience is important, it deserves the same level of planning and investment as any other venue. Sometimes more.

If you’re trying to figure out what your wedding might realistically cost, or how to make your vision work within your budget, I can help you map it out in a way that feels clear and manageable. Let’s create something thoughtful, seamless, and truly fabulous.
